How To Use Yoni Eggs: 5 Pro Tips For Beginners

Learn how to use Yoni eggs in 5 steps with pro tips for beginners to start practicing: Cleansing, clearing, programming, charging, and insertion/removal.

So, you just got your Yoni egg…now what?! Getting a Yoni egg is a bold and exciting step in your self-care journey, but before you get started there are a few things you need to know. So, I created this Yoni egg guide to share with you my 5 step process for beginning a Yoni egg practice.

You’ll learn crystal therapy secrets from my background as a Naturopathic Reiki Master Teacher so that you can personalize and care for your crystal Yoni egg. We’ll cover cleansing, clearing, programming, charging, and best practices for insertion and removal! Are you ready? Okay, let’s get started!

1) CLEANSING: HOW TO CLEAN YOUR YONI EGG

The first thing that you should do when you receive a new Yoni egg is to ensure that it is physically clean. The brief cleansing ritual I’m about to share is simple and will help you to maintain optimal Yoni hygiene by ensuring that your egg is always clean.

To protect the environment of our Yoni, it is advised to avoid using scented and harsh soaps or cleansing agents on your Yoni egg. Instead, you may use hot water with apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, cucumber juice, or even an unscented Castile soap.

Simple Cleansing Ritual

1) Heat 1 cup of water with 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar on the stove (not boiling, but hot).

2)  Transfer the mixture to a heat-safe container (i.e. Small glass bowl) with your Yoni egg, and allow it to sit for about 1-2 minutes.

For drilled eggs, use a Chenille stem (pipe cleaner) to gently brush the inside of the drilled hole.

3) Rinse the Yoni egg in lukewarm water (not cold) and allow the egg to dry on a soft, clean towel for 15-20 minutes (or until cool).

Never ever insert a hot egg into your Yoni. Also, avoid any extreme temperature fluctuations (i.e. transferring your egg from hot to cold water or vice versa) so that your egg does not become vulnerable to cracking.

Some crystals, such as quartz, are slightly more porous than others and can harbor bacteria if not cleaned appropriately. This is especially important if your Yoni egg has fallen into the toilet (a common occurrence in the beginning stages of Yoni egg practice). Be sure to use natural unscented soap first and then the hot water method mentioned above to thoroughly cleanse a porous egg.

2) CLEARING: HOW TO ENERGETICALLY CLEAR YOUR CRYSTAL YONI EGG

Crystals are conscious beings from the mineral kingdom and each carries a vibration. The Yoni is a highly receptive energy portal and for the sake of your own wellbeing, you must be discerning about what and who enters that space. Although some stones are self-clearing, many crystals pick up on energies from their environment and are programmable. Therefore, energetically clearing your Yoni egg is imperative as a next step before you go any further. You don’t know what energies that crystal may have come into contact with before reaching you.

Yoni eggs have a unique way of fostering a lot of clearing and releasing emotional attachments or energetic toxins from the body, regardless of your intention. So, be sure to energetically clear your Yoni egg from time to time throughout your practice.

Because they are an extension of the earth element, crystals respond very well to the subtle vibrations of the Earth. Therefore, you may use grounding methods to clear your Yoni egg, such as:

► Placing it into a bowl of salt for several hours or overnight.

► Placing it on the grass outside or even burying it in the earth* (do not bury a porous stone such as quartz because of the likelihood of trapping soil bacteria in the pores of your egg).

► Smudge your Yoni egg with Palo Santo, sage, or resin incense (frankincense, myrrh, or dragon’s blood).

► Place your Yoni egg crystal under the light of a full moon (avoid direct sunlight as it may cause changes to the appearance of your stone).

► Use Reiki by holding your Yoni egg in the palm of your hand and invoking Reiki symbols. ]

► Use your voice (i.e. Spoken word, singing, chanting) while holding your egg in your hand.

► Use sound healing (i.e. Crystal or Tibetan singing bowls, rattles, and drums).

For example, if you are working with a black obsidian Yoni egg to clear trauma or do some releasing, it may be a good idea to shake a rattle around your egg after you’ve physically cleaned it break up in stagnant energy that might be sitting around your crystal.

3) PROGRAMMING: HOW TO PROGRAM YOUR YONI EGG

As I mentioned previously, Yoni eggs are beings from the mineral kingdom and are quite remarkable forms of intelligence. Programming your crystal Yoni egg is a powerful way to establish a personal body with its energy field.

Yoni Egg Programming Ritual:

1) Place your Yoni egg in the palm of your right hand (giving hand) and visualize light surrounding it using your mind’s eye.

2) Out loud, say, “I dedicate this crystal to the highest good of all may be used in light and love.”

Feel free to create your own personal dedication. This one is from The Crystal Bible by Judy Hall.

3) Next, say, “I program this crystal for [state your intention].”

4) Spend a few minutes in silence and connect with your breath. Take 3-5 deep breaths as you allow this program to infuse into your Yoni egg crystal.

Voila! Your Yoni egg is clean, clear, and now carries a program that links it to your personal wellness intention and energy field.

4) CHARGING: HOW TO ENERGETICALLY CHARGE YOUR CRYSTAL YONI EGG

Charging a Yoni egg is a way to replenish your crystal by infusing it with a surge of positive energy. My favorite way to charge my Yoni eggs is to place them under the light of a full moon. Take some time to familiarize yourself with each of the Zodiac signs because the sign of the moonlight under which your egg sits will carry those particular qualities. This is also a great method to learn how to align your life with the cycles of the Moon.

Here are some other ways to charge your Yoni egg:

► Reiki

► Tibetan or Crystal Singing Bowls

► Your Yoni

Remember, Yoni is a Sanskrit word that means source, origin, or womb. Everything in existence must enter through the womb, which is the source of all creation. You hold the power of the Universal Life Force Energy (Reiki, prana, chi, Sekhem, etc.) within you! So, you can absolutely use your Yoni to charge your egg – you don’t really need anything else!

5)INSERTION AND REMOVAL: HOW TO USE YONI EGGS

Inserting a Yoni egg is quite simple and so is removal if you know how to relax.

1) The first step is to warm your Yoni egg by running warm water over it. This is not required, but warm eggs are generally more comfortable.

2) Find a comfortable position, such as frog pose, yogi squat, or simply lying on your back with the soles of your feet planted flat and knees bent.

3) If needed, use a natural, water-based lubricant, organic oil (i.e. Coconut oil), or saliva to lightly lubricate your egg for easier insertion. Invert and gently massage your Yoni egg in. The larger side should be inserted first.

For a drilled Yoni egg, you may thread unwaxed dental floss through the hole and leave it trailing out of your Yoni. The string is useful for easy removal as well as strength training when combined with pelvic floor exercises.

4) Enhance your Yoni practice with other therapies, such as:

► Yoni Breathing

► Yoni Yoga

► Self-Pleasuring

► Sexual Intercourse

► Kegel Exercises

Birthing your Yoni egg is easiest when your vaginal muscles are fully relaxed. Avoid pushing, pulling, or otherwise forcing your egg out of your Yoni. Instead, breathe deeply, drop your jaw and relax your pelvic floor muscles trusting that your Yoni will release the egg when SHE is ready! Developing trust is one of the most precious benefits of working with a Yoni egg.

If you are concerned that your egg will get stuck or that your egg continues to fall out, watch the following video for my best tips.

WHEN YOU SHOULD NOT USE A YONI EGG

For your safety, there are few instances in which, it is not recommended to use a Yoni egg:

► During Menstruation

► Pregnancy

► With Any IUD (intrauterine device)

► During an Active Yoni Infection

► Advanced Stages of  Pelvic Prolapse

► If you are immunocompromised (weakened immune system)

Another thing to consider is the actual mineral composition of your Yoni egg crystal. Your Yoni is a highly absorbent mucous membrane and not all crystals are safe for use inside of the body (i.e Tiger’s eye, fluorite, sapphire, moonstone, etc.)! Not every Yoni egg that is advertised is safe for internal use, so beware of companies that mislabel crystal eggs that may be toxic when used internally as “Yoni” eggs. Many stones are for decorative purposes only.

That’s why we provide an exclusive selection of Yoni egg crystals in our shop, each carefully inspected and individually certified by a professional gemologist at the International Gemological Institute (IGI). We only carry body-safe stones because your safety and wellness are our top priority. Hi Ms. Dominique, Do you mind sharing where you get your crystal eggs from? And also I heard that it is also very good that you can also cleanse your yoni eggs on selenite charging discs or plates as selenite is crystal that transmutes negative energy into positive energy. I do not have a yoni egg yet but I do look forward to purchasing some.

  2. Hey Bianca, I source my eggs from a US-based gem distributor that I’ve built a working relationship with, and as a result, I have access to a trusted network of miners. To ensure quality, all of my eggs are carefully inspected and certified by a professional gemologist at the International Gemological Institute so that they are authentic and don’t have any polishes, dyes, or chemical additives.

Selenite is a powerful, celestial cleanser and will charge your eggs with positive energy for sure. Just be sure to wash them thoroughly after contact with selenite, which is water-soluble and toxic to the body if there are particles on the egg. There are so many beautiful ways to cleanse and charge your egg and all are just as effective so I recommend that you do what resonates most with you!

    Thanks for your comment!🌻

  3. Hi Dominique,

I was excited to embark on the Yoni egg journey but realised pregnancy is a contra-indication. I suspect I’m pregnant, early days, and I was just wondering (if you know) why it’s not recommended to use a Yoni egg during pregnancy? Something to do with hormonal changes?
Or if you can point me in the direction of where I’d be best to seek and answer to my query…?
If I am pregnant I shall have to be patient and wait til the time is right.

    Thank you,

    Sharyn

  4. Hi Sharyn,

Thank you for such a great question and please pardon my delayed response. Although I’m sure you now know whether or not you are pregnant, I wanted to answer your question for educational purposes.

Unless your are under the care and direction of a licensed medical doctor (or feminine healthcare provider), inserting any object into the vaginal canal during pregnancy can be very risky and should be avoided at all times.

Yoni eggs, by design, can frequently come into contact with the cervix. They can also apply some pressure to the urethra and rectum. All of this is typical and no cause for concern given that you are NOT pregnant, immunocompromised, or otherwise contraindicated.

However, during pregnancy the pressure and movement of a yoni egg can disturb the uterus by pressing against the cervix. Secondly, vaginal hygiene is critical during pregnancy and may be compromised if a yoni egg is used – even if it was cleaned beforehand.

“But why? I thought yoni eggs were safe?”

It is well known that pregnancy naturally suppresses the mother’s immune system to a slight degree. Therefore, pregnant women must exercise more caution around any actions that could lead to an imbalance while in a state of heightened sensitivity to pathogens.

With that said, yoni eggs are great tools to prepare the pelvic floor of healthy women for pregnancy (before getting pregnant), and to aide in the postpartum healing process (no less that 6 weeks after childbirth) once medically cleared to do so by your feminine healthcare provider.

This same rule applies to douching, adult toys, dilating, and anything else that could otherwise be safely inserted into the vaginal canal.

I am not a doctor and cannot give medical advice, but I hope these tips point you in the right direction. Please talk to your doctor about using yoni eggs, and ask what they advise.

    In Peace & Beauty,
    Dominique
